Happy Valley

Happy Valley

To its 7,000 residents, Happy Valley is a neighborhood filled with history, community, and life. Before Bellingham came together as a city, Happy Valley residents could take a streetcar line to Fairhaven to explore the boardwalk or go shopping. In the years since, Happy Valley has grown and developed steadily, rivaling Roosevelt for population size. Given its proximity to Western Washington University, Happy Valley is a popular location for student housing. On the north end of the neighborhood there is a high concentration of apartments, mostly housing college students. The southern area has been zoned for medium and large single family homes on grassy lots. Many of the existing houses are well maintained and impressive, with homeowners making up the majority of the neighborhood. I-5 borders Happy Valley to the east, providing quick access to the rest of the city.

The Happy Valley neighborhood, while developed, has many untouched areas that make up greenway corridors and outdoor parks. It’s not uncommon to see owls, deer, birds, and squirrels running around or grazing in the parks. The Connelly Creek nature area provides a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood, with wooded trails that lead to Padden Creek and Old Fairhaven. Happy Valley Park contains a modern playground, open field, and spaces for playing ball or hosting a BBQ.

On the northern border lies the Sehome Hill Arboretum, with its beautiful trails, protected plants, and views of the city. Without a doubt, the neighborhood is very family friendly, with a higher safety rating than most neighborhoods, walkable streets, and strong public schools nearby. The typical school track follows Happy Valley Elementary to Shuksan Middle to Sehome High, with options for private school. The neighborhoods residents vary from college students to young families to retirees, and all find Happy Valley to be a beautiful place to experience life.

Overall, Happy Valley is an excellent fit for a wide variety of people. Demand for housing in this neighborhood is high, so don’t waste any time contacting a BNP agent today!
