Any good knot-tier must know how to tie the taut line hitch. It allows you to adjust the tension of a rope — and the rope will HOLD that tension. You can then easily loosen it.It's one of the easiest knots to tie and you can learn it very quickly. It's also unique in that you can tie a taut line hitch with one rope, around a completely different piece of rope, and use it to pull that second rope tight. This can be highly useful on sailboats and in climbing and rigging.
