Q&A with Realtor / Assistant Jessa Loudon
In the fall of 2020, BNP Realtors Paulina and Jacson decided they were ready to hire a full-time assistant.
To be fair, being an assistant to not one but two people as ambitious and driven as Paulina and Jacson is not "just a job."
It is a calling. It is a near-complete surrender to a lifestyle so utterly focused and committed that anyone less than "FULL ON" would wash out in a matter of weeks.Enter Jessa Loudon, who is now a year-and-a-half into her BNP journey.Enough from me. Let's read what Jessa has to say.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
A: Every day is different which is something I appreciate about Real Estate. I start every day by going for a bike ride or run outside. After that I typically come into the office for a few hours of office work which might include listing prep, research for a client, or follow-ups. In the afternoon I usually have a few showings, I might attend an inspection for a buyer, or get to put together gifts for clients to celebrate a closing.
Q: Tell us about a time you solved a problem for a client?
A: I once was helping a client sell their home and move every single belonging they had from Washington to Alaska. The feat seemed impossible at first due to a very specific timeline, and it was causing my client a great deal of stress. After days of calling different moving companies and scheduling them to come estimate the job, I finally found the perfect company for the job. They would pack, ship, and unload an entire house full of items and furniture at a reasonable cost.
Q: What advice would you give to a first-time Seller?
A: My advice to a first time seller would be to find a Realtor who is exceptional at getting a home ready to list. Someone who is experienced in knowing what is most important to buyers in their home search. There are some Realtors who simply give home sellers a checklist of to-dos which can seem daunting and impossible. Find a Realtor who will go above and beyond to guide you through the process of getting your home ready for market, and who will be there every step of the way to reduce stress and present your home in its very best light.
Q: How is BNP different than other local firms?
A: BNP offers a first-class, team-oriented approach to each transaction we help our clients with. Our service is based on trust, clear & responsive communication and diligent hard work. Our relationship with each client we serve doesn't end after a transaction closes. We continue to offer support with contractor referrals, home maintenance tips, and project follow ups.
Q: Jessa, you're a passionate outdoor athlete. What activity do you love?
A: I love to run. You might guess I run for the physical benefits, but the real reason I run is for the deeply relaxing and calming effect it has on my mind. The combination of running for a long period of time, sometimes over 3 or 4 hours, is a form of meditation for me. I’ve read countless biographies of wildly successful people who have all said meditation has been a key component in their lives. I tried various forms of meditation, and ultimately, the kind of mindfulness where you’re supposed to sit in one spot in silence has never quite worked for me. So instead, I adopted a different form that fit with who I am, but resulted in the same effect.
Japanese culture believes in the health benefits of forest bathing, simply being in nature and taking it in through our senses. When we live in a world so focused on communicating via technology and working indoors, being outside is a way to reconnect for me. When I’m running outside, breathing fresh air, listening to birds chirping, the wind rushing through the leaves, and sunshine beaming in between the trees I feel at peace. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, every happy childhood memory I have is of playing outdoors. Taking the canoe out on Baker Lake, hiking through the Cascades, sailing in the San Juans, building tree forts in the backyard. We’re all busy, we all need reminders to slow down. And being outside everyday is my reminder to try not take anything for granted and be grateful for what’s around me. I enjoy helping others and am passionate about my work, family and friends. My time as an entrepreneur and fitness trainer has taught me that in order to help others, it is imperative we take time for ourselves. Running in nature has been one of my greatest forms of self discovery and I feel so grateful to have found it.
Q: What is your guiding principle, professionally?
A: To have integrity in all that I do, be kind to people and to do everything in my power to help my clients achieve success.
Q: What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
A: The quality of your life will be decided by the quality of your relationships.
Q: What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?
A: Taking 3 months off after college to travel in South America.
Q: When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?
A: Spend time with my family or get some exercise in nature.
Q: What do you love most about your work?
A: The opportunity to be a creative problem solver every day as well as the joy I get to share with clients when they achieve their goals.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: The depth of my relationships with the people I love, and my ability to form new connections with people.
