Its 3,000 residents enjoy the endless opportunities Lake Whatcom provides as well as a variety of beautiful gardens, landscapes, and front lawns. People choose Silver Beach for their home for many reasons, including the strong public schools, safe environment, access to multiple parks, trails and beaches, and involved community.

Silver Beach Elementary or Geneva Elementary are both excellent schools with fantastic teachers and active parent groups. Just north of Silver Beach, Squalicum High has a quality AP scholar program and several talented sports teams. It’s easy for new families with children to get plugged into the community via the schools, making Silver Beach a very socially vibrant area.

Having the lake so close to home is a particuarly coveted aspect of this neighborhood, and Bloedel Donovan Park is the easiest place to access it! This iconic and popular Bellingham park boasts acres of lawns, a playground, multiple swim areas, boat launch, volleyball courts, pre-school, and gymnasium. In the summertime children can be seen jumping off the bridge or climbing the wooden pilings, as kayaks, paddle boards and rowing  shells zip around the northern basin of the lake.

The park is also home to the Whatcom Rowing Association's beautiful boathhouse and rowing programs for rank beginners and experienced veterans of the sport. Also, on any given Wednesday night from March through October, many dozens of kayaks, surfskis and outrigger canoes will be found lining up to race a 3.5-mile course around the shores of Silver Beach. It's open to anyone with a paddlecraft, and these informal weekly races always start at 6 p.m.

For those craving more land-based adventures near Silver Beach, walking trails connect Bloedel to Whatcom Falls Park, the surrounding neighborhoods, and the rest of the city. Residents take pride in the well kept appearance of the parks and trails, as well as the friendly community.
