Whatcom Falls

Whatcom Falls

During Bellingham’s development, special care was taken to preserve natural areas for parks and citizen recreation. One of these areas, Whatcom Falls Park, is the centerpiece of urban greenery and the namesake for a popular Bellingham neighborhood.

Residents of Whatcom Falls neighborhood enjoy 241 acres of walking trails, playgrounds, swimming areas, and beautiful PNW wildlife. The park area contains a modern playground, BBQ grills, open play area, basketball court, a bike pump track, and ball field. Families with children of all ages find Whatcom Falls to be a welcoming and safe neighborhood with an excellent safety rating.

Local public schools are close by, with Shuksan Middle and Roosevelt Elementary only a 5 minute drive away. Right up the road from Whatcom Falls Park lies the north entrance to Galbraith Mountain, a now-internationally-renowned mountain biking desination with over 60 miles of single track. On sunny days, cars can be seen lining the parking lots at multiple different trailheads with bikes riding in and out.

But the fun doesn’t end there- Blodel Donavan Park borders the neighborhood, giving residents easy access to Lake Whatcom via one of the most popular parks in Bellingham. Its swim beach, basketball court, soccer field, and community center attract many visitors all year round. The Whatcom Rowing Association also make their home in the park, and they offer summer camps for kids and adults who want to learn to row!

Houses in Whatcom Falls are typically single family homes spanning a range of architectural styles and are well maintained over the years. The majority of residents are homeowners, but there are a few apartment buildings and other opportunities to rent. The neighborhood is bisected by Lakeway Drive and Yew Street, both key roads that open up Whatcom Falls to the rest of the city. A key advantage of the neighborhood lies in its convenient positioning close to these centrally connected roads, good schools, shopping, and right in the middle of one of the best natural reserves in Bellingham.
