Second Story Window? No Problem! (Easy Cleaning Hack)

Quick Summary

This video reveals a clever hack for washing all surfaces of a sliding window, including those on a second story, entirely from inside the house. You will learn how to easily remove the screen and, crucially, how to lift the sliding window pane completely out of its frame after sliding it open all the way. Knowing this is important because it allows you to safely clean the usually unreachable outside surface of the fixed pane and the difficult-to-access inside surface of the moving pane, ensuring a sparkling, clean window.

What you'll need and what to do

To try what's taught in the video, here's what you'll need and the exact steps to follow.

What You Will Need

  • Glass cleaner

  • Towel or rag (for wiping)

Action Steps

  1. Slide open the window completely.

  2. Pop the screen out by grabbing the little tabs and pulling it out.

  3. Clean the inside surface of the fixed pane (pane 1) and the outside surface of the fixed pane (pane 3) by reaching through the opening, spraying it down with cleaner, and wiping it off.

  4. Lift the sliding window pane completely out of the frame.

  5. Lean the removed sliding pane against the wall.

  6. Spray down and clean the removed sliding pane.

  7. Put the removed sliding pane back into the frame, putting the top in first, and then popping the bottom in.

  8. Put the screen back into the window.
