This includes the cameras, lenses, audio equipment, and accessories that Brandon Nelson plans to use for capturing footage. You’ll want this information because it details a durable, water-focused setup, featuring items like the waterproof GoPro Hero9, a Joby Gorillapod, external housing, a Rode VideoMicro for audio, and solar panels for charging. It also shows how to protect valuable gear, like a Canon Rebel T6 DSLR and lenses, in a rugged Pelican case that has already survived extreme trips.

Baja Kaya Adventure

Hey everyone, Brandon Nelson! I’m in prep mode right now, and I’m going to quickly walk you through the photo and video gear I’m trusting for our week-long sea kayak adventure in Baja. Since this whole trip is centered completely on water sports, we need a setup that can handle it!

For the main action, my partner and I are both going to be rocking the GoPro Hero9—we’ll have two of these! I love running the Joby Gorillapod on mine because it works perfectly as a selfie stick, or I can wrap it around just about anything on the kayak or the beach to grab a shot. Now, the GoPro is waterproof right out of the box, which is awesome, but just in case we want to go really deep or stay submerged for a really long time, we’ll run it inside one of these extra housings for full protection.

For audio capture, especially if we’re talking on camera, I’ve got the Rode VideoMicro and its trusty furry windshield to block out that wind noise. Since we’ll be off-grid for a week, power is a huge concern, so naturally, I’m packing a bunch of spare batteries and a charger, but we’re also bringing along some solar panels so we can recharge while we’re out there.

Beyond the GoPros, I definitely need some high-quality still photos, so I’m bringing the Canon Rebel T6 DSLR. It's currently got the 75 to 300 millimeter zoom lens attached so I can get those distant wildlife shots, and I'm also tossing in the 10 to 18 millimeter lens for those massive wide landscape views of the Baja coast.

All that expensive gear has to live somewhere safe, especially when paddling! That’s why I trust this beast—my Pelican case, or as I call it, the "Pelley case." This thing is legendary; it’s already survived padding the entire Sea of Cortez and even circumnavigating Lake Baikal in Siberia, so I know it can handle Baja. That’s the full setup! I'm going to get packed, and I promise to report back with some epic photos and footage soon. I’ll see you next time!
