Swimming with Sea Lions on Espiritu Santo Island

Quick Summary

You will learn about an incredible wildlife adventure: swimming with a colony of hundreds of sea lions near Isla Espiritu Santo in Baja, Mexico. The video details the experience of visiting Los Islotes (Isla Lobos), where you can wetsuit up and interact with these infinitely curious, playful, and entertaining animals. You'll want to know about this because it's described as one of the most insane and unforgettable up-close wildlife experiences available, unlike typical ocean encounters.

The Epic Encounter

Hey everyone, Brandon Nelson! I'm going to take you on one of the most insane wildlife adventures I have ever been on!

So, for spring break this year, we decided to set out to explore Isla Espiritu Santo, which is north of La Paz in Baja, Mexico. We hired an outfitter because we planned on having five days of camping, hiking, just playing and paddling in those clear, warm waters, and checking out all the cool Baja wildlife.

On the second day, we loaded right into the ponga and started cruising north. We were heading toward these tiny, undeveloped islands called Los Islotes, or sometimes Isla Lobos. These islands are geologically amazing, but more importantly, they are home to a massive colony of hundreds of sea lions!

And this is the incredible part: these creatures are infinitely curious, and you are not just checking them out from the boat—you're actually able to wetsuit up and go swimming with them! That is exactly what we did!

We’ve spent a ton of time playing in oceans, lakes, and rivers all over the world, but honestly, this experience was unlike anything we'd ever done. The sea lions are just so friendly, playful, curious, and entertaining, they literally just put on a show for you as you swim among them! Seriously, if you love up-close wildlife adventures, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was definitely a Baja adventure we will never forget! I'll see you next time!
